Yamada Bessō is a gorgeous old ryokan in downtown Beppu and they have one of nicest baths I have ever seen. It ranks very high on my list of favorite onsen.
We had gone to Yamada Bessō a few weeks earlier, but then we couldn't bathe because they had just drained the bath for cleaning. This time we were lucky, because they let us use the rotenburo privately. Highly recommended! I think the pictures speak for themselves.
We didn't bathe here, but just had a peek. This is the men's bath.
