Men's changing area.
I like quiet, old onsen and Ōji Onsen is such a place. It is located near Kasuga shrine. There is also a shopping area nearby, which has an Indian restaurant I recommend.
As I said the onsen is very old. The building itself doesn't look so special, but I really liked the interior, with its old wooden floor and ancient massage chair.
For women this place may be a bit awkward. First of all the women's changing area does not have a toilet. If you have to use the toilet, you have to go into the owner's house and use the toilet there. Secondly, the booth of the man running the onsen faces the changing area. He can watch his customers. I can imagine this can be uncomfortable for women.

The onsen itself was good. There is one bath which is divided in two parts. The big part is very deep — it's too deep to sit on the floor — and the water is hot. The smaller part is shallow and the temperature is comfortable.
