Atami Onsen is the closest onsen from our apartment. It is located right outside the north exit of Oita Station. Our apartment is right outside the south exit of the station. We have lived here for three and a half years, but this was the first time we visited this onsen.

The facade doesn't look so inviting, so I never expected much of this onsen, but it was actually quite nice. The bath is divided into two parts. One area is very hot and the other part is still hot, but comfortable. The interior has a nice atmosphere and the people are friendly. I'm sure we won't wait so long to visit again.
Update February 4, 2012:
We visited Atami again and although it was very foggy, my wife managed to take a picture of the bath.
