Beppu Shōwaen is a very luxurious ryokan in Beppu's Kankaiji area. They have a big rotenburo, which can be used for free after having (very expensive) lunch, and family baths. When you're not staying at the ryokan you can only use the family bath on weekdays between noon and 3 o'clock. You have to make a reservation beforehand.

The level of service was impressive. We were welcomed at the parking by a staff and he carried one of our bags for us. The bath was nice, but because of the luxury of the ryokan, I expected the bath to be even better. The only complaint I have is that the waterfall bath wasn't working. I hope we can stay overnight some time.
